Diploma in Essential Islamic Studies

The Diploma in Essential Islamic Studies is a unique program designed for all Spanish-speaking Muslims over the age of 16 who aspire to a superior and quality Islamic education. The course is 100% online and is taught in Spanish and Arabic by native Spanish-speaking professors who are highly qualified in their subjects.

There are three possible modalities available:

  1. Main modality (1 year)
    • Nine weekly classes distributed in three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 19:00 to 21:45 Spanish time).
    • Ideal if you can devote sustained effort throughout the academic year.
  2. Extended mode (2 years)
    • Reduced course load; you take half of the subjects each year, 2 days a week.
    • Recommended if your weekly availability is limited.
  3. Enrollment by subject
    • Choose only the subjects you can handle and move at your own pace. You look at the subjects here.

Nine live classes are held weekly, distributed over three days. All sessions are recorded and remain available, with unlimited access, for two academic years.

You will have access to the University's Virtual Campus and will be able to resolve your doubts in real time through live classes, the platform's chat and Telegram groups, allowing students from anywhere in the world to enjoy quality education from the comfort of their homes.

This course is equivalent to the Baccalaureate in Islamic Sciences and prepares the access course to the Degree in Islamic Sciences and Theology, oriented to the training of imams and murshidat, and to the Diploma in Islamic Education and Religion, aimed at future teachers of Islamic Religion.

For any Muslim man or woman over the age of 16 who wishes to deepen his or her knowledge of Islam, regardless of his or her previous level of Arabic or other Islamic sciences. Approximately 25% of our students are converts to Islam.

The Essentials Course is demanding and requires commitment; it is not a basic program. Even so, a large number of our students - who are working or pursuing other studies - complete it successfully.
  • Online classes and exams
  • The course begins on September 2, 2025 and classes end on June 27, 2026.
  • Those who do not wish to complete the exams may attend all the classes but will not obtain a certificate nor will they be able to access the course.
  • Upon successful completion of the course and its corresponding evaluation, the student will receive the Diploma in Essential Islamic Studies.

Subjects

Throughout the program, the most important Islamic disciplines are addressed with the aim of providing key training in Islam, Iman and Ihsan. In addition to this course, we organize intensive courses - face-to-face and online - at our Seville Campus and student gatherings that foster community and revive spirituality.

The subjects to be taught are:

  • Arabic LanguageStudents will learn to read, write and speak classical Arabic, which will give them access to the vast Islamic literature.
  • Qur'an recitation rules (Taywíd): Students will learn the rules of Quran recitation, which will enable them to recite the Quran correctly.
  • Exegesis of the Qur'an (Tafsír): Students will study the meaning and interpretation of the Qur'an, which will enable them to better understand the message of the Qur'an.
  • Islamic Law (Fiqh): Students will study Islamic laws, which will enable them to understand how to apply Islam in their daily lives.
  • Theology (Aqídah): Students will study Islamic belief and theology, which will enable them to better understand the Islamic faith.
  • Prophetic Tradition (Hadith): Students will study the teachings and example of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), which will enable them to understand and apply Islamic teachings.
  • Islamic Spirituality (Tazkiyah): Students will study the purification of the soul and the search for closeness to Allah, which will enable them to develop a deeper spiritual life.
  • Auxiliary Islamic Sciences (Ulúm al-Álah): Students will receive introductory instruction in the ancillary Islamic sciences, which will enable them to have a deeper understanding of the Islamic religion in general.
  • Biography of the Prophet (Sírah Nabawiyah): Students will study the life and legacy of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), enabling them to understand his example as a guide and leader in Islamic society, and to apply his teachings in their daily lives.
  • First Year 2025/26
