Seville, April 21, 2025 - The Islamic University of Spain Al-Andalusia, through its rector, Sh. Mohammad Idrissi Alcaraz, has issued an official statement expressing its sincere condolences to the Catholic Church and the entire Catholic community in Spain and the world, on the occasion of the passing of His Holiness the Pope.

In the message, the University highlighted the figure of the Pope as a spiritual reference who was able to raise his voice for the justice, human dignity and peaceHe left an indelible legacy through his strong defense of the rights of the oppressed and his clear position in favor of the Palestinian people and the end of the genocide in Gaza.

In a European context increasingly marked by Islamophobia, the communiqué highlights the role of the Pope in the interreligious dialogueHis closeness to the most vulnerable and his constant call for peace and justice.

"We raise our prayers that whoever succeeds him will continue this legacy of understanding, solidarity and closeness between communities, in favor of a more just and humane world," concludes the communiqué signed by the Rector.
